How to read a lighting simulation in DIALux evo
Average illuminance, uniformity, glare and false-color maps: what the results of a lighting calculation mean.

A DIALux evo report contains many figures. These are the ones that matter most to know whether a space is well lit.
Work plane
The surface on which light is calculated: for example, desk height in an office or the floor in a corridor. Results always refer to that plane.
Average illuminance (Em)
The average amount of light reaching the work plane, in lux (lx). The design value depends on the task and on the lighting regulation that applies to the project.
Uniformity (U0)
The ratio between minimum and average illuminance. Low uniformity means some areas are much darker than average, even if the average looks fine.
Glare (UGR)
Indicates how uncomfortable the light from the luminaires can be in the field of view. It is key in offices and workplaces with screens.
False-color map
Colors each point of the plane according to its illuminance. It shows at a glance where there is too much or too little light so the luminaire layout can be adjusted.
A simulation is a design calculation. Actual levels depend on the luminaires installed, surface finishes and maintenance (which is why a maintenance factor is used).
