What does an electrical survey include?
What is checked on site, what is delivered and why survey an existing electrical installation before refurbishing or extending it.
· Reading time: 4 min
An electrical survey documents an installation as it is. It is the starting point when there are no drawings, when existing drawings do not match reality, or before a refurbishment or extension.
What is checked on site
- Panelboards: location, protective devices, labeling and the circuits they feed.
- Visible routes of raceways, cable trays and ducts.
- Lighting outlets, receptacles and special loads.
- Connected equipment and technical rooms.
- Photographic record of every relevant element.
What is delivered
- As-built drawings of the existing installation in DWG and PDF.
- Single-line diagrams of the panelboards.
- Circuit and equipment inventory.
- Report with observations and items to check.
What it is for
With the survey, a refurbishment starts from real data: you know the available capacity, which circuits are loaded and where new raceways can run. It also updates the building documentation.
The survey describes what was observed. It is not a conformity inspection and does not include specialized measurements or tests unless agreed in the proposal.
